Getting to Know: Hannah Scollard
What is your current role in Rotaract?
I’m Director of International Service. It’s my job to facilitate fundraising and awareness for our international projects. Our most recent international project was raising funds to support the work of Free the Bears Fund who rescue and rehabilitate endangered bear species in South and Southeast Asia. We’re also supporting the education of children in the Philippines through our parent Club’s scholarship program.
Describe yourself in two words
I was tempted to say: brunette, female, but I’ll go with massive nerd instead.
Why did you join Rotaract?
I moved back to Launceston after living in Hobart for university and didn’t really know that many people up here anymore. I thought that joining the club would be a good way to meet people as well to get involved in worthwhile community projects.
What would you say is your worst habit?
Deferring things that could be easily done as they arise.
Your favourite Rotaract memory so far?
It would have to be my old team of Silver Star Sasquatch taking out the top spot in the Amazing Christmas Race.
Where can we find you on a Sunday morning?
Sound asleep in bed.
What are you looking forward to in the next year of RCTV?
Taking part in lots of community events as well as having fun at Club service events, and Rotabattle challenges.

What do you think sets RCTV apart from other clubs?
We have a great bunch of people who are all enthusiastic, intelligent, socially conscious and genuinely want to make a difference to the local and global community.
If you could take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be and why?
Emergency satellite beacon, satellite phone and a book. It’s cheating I know, but I’d go mad on an island by myself so I’d need the first two items so I could get back to civilisation and the book so I’d have something to do while waiting to be rescued.
Any words of wisdom to people thinking of joining our club?
If you want to meet some awesome people and are keen to get involved and make a difference then we are the place to do it.
Finally, what theme song should accompany your life?

I heard about Rotaract when I was selected to attend a RYLA camp. There weren't any Rotaract clubs in the area at that time. I also wanted to do something meaningful with my spare time.

Getting to Know: Reannah Frost
What is your current role in Rotaract?

Describe yourself in two words...
Generous. Organised.
Why did you join Rotaract?
I came along to an info session about starting the club because i was intrigued at what the Rotary brand was about and what it could achieve. Once we got started, i stuck around because i knew we had so much to give and in my opinion Launceston wasn’t doing enough for young people in the area. Hopefully we’re changing that.
What would you say is your worst habit?
“i’m not bossy, i just know which way you should be doing it..”
Your favourite Rotaract memory so far?

You can find me either walking my Husky or in the kitchen cooking up a breakfast storm.. But why are you looking for me?
What are you looking forward to in the next year of RCTV?
We’ve got some amazing projects coming up - including our trivia night for Save the Bears (Nov 4th peeps - lock it in!) and raising awareness of some big issues facing young people. I’m also looking forward to the White Knights dominating the RotaBattle competition..
What's your favourite after 5 drink?
Gin & Tonic.
What do you think sets RCTV apart from other clubs?
We’re not just about community service and fundraising, we’re SO much more than that. Initially we were a bunch of strangers thrown in a room together, but this year we’ve really stepped up in regards to developing our members and creating solid friendships. Our members help each other out and actually want to spend time together outside of meetings and events. And that’s what makes our club work so successfully. We trust each other, we know our strengths and we genuinely want to spend time together to achieve something.
If you could take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be and why?
Sunglasses, music and a cocktail. I desperately need a holiday and this sounds like the place to do it...
Any words of wisdom to people thinking of joining our club?

Getting to Know: Sara Durante
What is your current role in Rotaract?
I am currently the Secretary. This pretty much involves carting paperwork backwards and forwards to meetings, spamming people with emails and writing things down a lot. It’s testing my organisational skills a bit, but I like it!
Describe yourself in two words...
Quite small.
Why did you join Rotaract?
I wanted to meet some new people, I wanted something to do other than study and I wanted to be involved with helping others and causes. Rotaract was by far the easiest and most welcoming place in Launceston that offered volunteer and community work that I could find. Super glad I did!
What would you say is your worst habit?
I use sarcasm way too much, and in the same tone that I speak normally. So it often comes across as being rude. I’m not though... :)
Your favourite Rotaract memory so far?
This is tough. I really enjoyed getting to know some of the other Rotaract people at Relay for Life. I really enjoy the social things that we do, because they usually produce the best stories afterwards, our Change Over Dinner and this one time when we went out for tapas at the Tram Bar would be my top two.
Where can we find you on a Sunday morning?
Generally, the gym. Regardless of how late I’ve been out or what I’m doing, Dad insists that the whole family goes to the gym Sunday mornings.
What are you looking forward to in the next year of RCTV?
I’m looking forward to getting involved in everything that we do, spending time with the current members and also meeting (hopefully lots) of new ones.
What's your favourite after 5 drink?
Depends on the location, event and how poor I am on the given date.
I’ll say Cider though.
What do you think sets RCTV apart from other clubs?
I think that the work that we do, the fun that we have, the events that we participate in and organise and the people involved equate to the most super group ever. The ratios of everything are great. It’s hard to explain unless you’ve been along to one of the things that we do, but it’s all very harmonious for the most part, and heaps of fun :)
If you could take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be and why?
1. Boyfriend for company, I’d probably go mental if I was left alone for ages (because the stress of being on a deserted island wouldn’t do this already?)
2. Camera to take photos of whatever happens while I’m there (ignore the fact that I won’t be able to charge it)
3. Lots of pasta. For energy, and because I like pasta...
Any words of wisdom to people thinking of joining our club?
Do it. Seriously.
You’ll get a nice name badge and everything! ...When I get around to ordering them.
Finally, what theme song should accompany your life?
Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will be) by Doris Day...

Getting to Know: Renee Bowyer-Bower
What is your current role in Rotaract?
Vice President. Basically, I keep our President, Callum Bartley, in check. I also support the other directors when they need it. It’s great because I get to be in involved in all the areas of Rotaract, not just focus on one specific project.
Describe yourself in two words...
Initially shy.
Why did you join Rotaract?
To improve my professional networks (and I have also managed to make friends at the same time, which is terrific!) and learn more about the opportunities available to help out international and local communities.
What would you say is your worst habit?
I have this terrible habit of zoning out part way through a conversation if someone distracts me; it’s incredibly rude so I am working on it!
Your favourite Rotaract memory so far?
Road trip with our French Exchange Student, long story but a great story!
Where can we find you on a Sunday morning?
Hopefully getting a sleep in, but if not I’ll be walking my new puppy Bella, she’s a French Bulldog and the highlight of my mornings.
What are you looking forward to in the next year of RCTV?
Being more of an active member and taking part in as many activities as I can.
What's your favourite after 5 drink?
Rekorderlig Cider.
What do you think sets RCTV apart from other clubs?
It’s rare to find a club where every member endeavours to participate and do their part. It’s fantastic!
If you could take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be and why?
1. A never ending packet of Tim Tams, clearly the reasoning behind this is obvious.
2. Music, for dancing. I can never be sad when I’m grooving.
3. Company, this may be cheating but I am a social person and would go bonkers if I had to put up with myself for years on end.
I have no need for survival items as Bear Grylls has taught me everything I need to know.
Any words of wisdom to people thinking of joining our club?
The opportunities that being a member of Rotaract provide you with don’t come along in every day life. You only get one life so why not do something worthwhile with it? You can sit around on the couch and watch Deal or No Deal when you’re old and grumpy.
Finally, what theme song should accompany your life?
Inevitable – Anberlin. I can’t help but smile when I hear it so I’d be quite happy to smile for the rest of my life.

Getting to know: Callum Bartley
What is your current role in Rotaract?
Since we chartered in 2010 my main role has been that of membership director however I have also dabbled as treasurer. In the coming year I have the honour of being chosen to represent RCTV as the president of our club and I am looking forward to the challenges and successes to come in 2011-2012.
Describe yourself in two words...
Hairy, Committed
Why did you join Rotaract?
I joined Rotaract as I was looking for a way to participate in the community. I was told about a meeting to gauge interest and went along to it where we were given a presentation from some of the guys from the Central Coast club. I loved how passionate they were about Rotaract and found myself wanting to get involved. Since then I have only grown to enjoy it more with each event and meeting we have.
What would you say is your worst habit?
Probably enjoying myself a little too much at social events and ending up with various bruises and cuts :P
Your favourite Rotaract memory so far?
My favourite memory hmmm that’s a hard question I have enjoyed everything we have done… I would have to say camping out with some others from the club at Relay for Life. It was awesome to see the way everyone got along and kept the baton (a blow up palm tree) moving around the oval. Also the opportunities that Rotaract has opened up for me such as RYLA, Rotary Conventions (I met and actual astronaut :D) and the chance to meet and get to know such a varied group of people.
Where can we find you on a Sunday morning?
Well generally Sunday morning I am laying in a dark room resting my head :P But Sunday is family day so by 1pm I am up and about having mini pies and cake with my extended family.
What are you looking forward to in the next year of RCTV?
I am looking forward to growing and strengthening our club and having more interaction with the other clubs in Tassie.
What's your favourite after 5 drink?
Well I will never say no to a good Sav Blanc by the glass or bottle whichever is going.
What do you think sets RCTV apart from other clubs?
RCTV is set apart from other clubs by the amazing group of people that we have. I’m not saying that the other clubs don’t have good people but we are definitely the best.
If you could take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be and why?
Hmm good question… I could cheat and say a Rotary Disaster Aid box but I won’t do that :P. I’d say a good sturdy survival knife (the kind that has a flint etc built into the hilt), a swag with built in sleeping bag (that makes it one item you see) and probably my cat to keep me company.
Any words of wisdom to people thinking of joining our club?
DO IT!!! Seriously it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. One of the best things about Rotaract is getting to meet and get to know people you would otherwise never interact with, it means you interact with a range of people and might just find things out about yourself that you didn’t even know. We have had a huge amount of fun while at the same time giving back to the community. I am looking forward to staying here until they kick me out for being too old…
Finally, what theme song should accompany your life?
“A Whole New World” from Aladdin. Join and ask me why…
